Comedies
These stories are about unity and love. They start off with two young lovers and end with their marriage. They are light-hearted and contain all styles of comedy, such as comic plot. Many contain a clever servant who tries to bring the two people together and usually succeeds. Some examples of comedies include: A Midsummer Night's Dream and Much Ado About Nothing.
Tragedies
These stories are about the downfalls of powerful people. They contain heroes with a fundamental flaw with ultimately leads to their demise. All of the stories end in death. It was observed that the wealthier and more powerful the character was, the bigger their downfall. A Shakespearean written tragedy is Hamlet.
Histories
These stories are all historical fiction that explore the social classes of that time. Shakespeare molded the history to suit the prejudices of his viewers in that time. They featured English Kings from different periods of time. Many of these stories dramatized wars the Englishmen faced. Some examples of histories include: King John and Henry IV.
